| 2009 North American Breeders
Futurity
The 2009 NABF classes were held at the 35th Dressage at Devon,
from September 22nd till 27th.
Devon, PA – For the seventh year Dressage at Devon
will be the venue for the North American Breeders Futurity
(NABF) Finals. The NABF again offers classes for four, five
and six year old dressage horses.
Classes 4, 5 and 6 are
open classes with preference given to those horses qualified
for the NABF.
Classes 7, 8 and 9 are the North American Breeders Futurity
Championship Finals.
These classes are limited to horses born in North America
(Canada, USA & Mexico) and have earned two or more scores
of 7 or better at USEF or other NF recognized shows from
January 1, 2009 to September 5, 2009.
Class 7 is open only to horses who have earned at least
two scores of 7 or better in USEF 4-year-old tests at USEF
or other NF recognized shows from January 1, 2009 to September
5, 2009.
On September 5, the eight horses with the highest averaged
score will be placed in the class. Additionally, up to four
more horses may qualify as Wild Cards. These Wild Cards
will go to the best four (with 7 scores or better) earned
in Classes 4, 5, and 6. If horses which have qualified prior
to Dressage at Devon do not attend, more Wild Card slots
may be awarded. The Qualification Statement on the entry
form must be completed for each entry.
All entrants must contact Dressage at Devon and file their
entry prior to the show's closing date!. For information
go to http://www.dressageatdevon.org.
The NABF classes were started in 2003 to put more emphasis
on the training and showing of young horses bred in North
America. The NABF as well as several other new programs
(e.g. the Born in the USA awards) help to focus more attention
on the young horses bred in this country. Renown riders
and trainers have started to train and compete young horses
- more than ever before.
“Sport horse breeding in North America is up to the
quality of Europe,” says Ekkehard Brysch, one of the
instigators of the NABF “but we must give the young
talents challenging opportunities to compete under prime
conditions. We can make top dressage horses here –
we don’t need to import all of them from Europe.”
The North American Breeders Futurity Finals for Four, Five
and Six Year Old Horses are open only to horses bred in
North America. The purse of $ 3,000.-per class will be devided
among the top six horses in each class as follows:
